Yeah, I am having similar troubles. I have a windows 2000/ Red Hat Linux 7.2 dual-boot system running under lilo with partition magic 7.0 on the windows side. I must now remove the linux and the lilo so the System Administrator will let me join the LAN here. I got in a hurry and overwrote my mbr by booting up DOS with a Windows 98 floppy and typing 'fdisk /mbr' at the command-line prompt at the recommendation of a friend and ended up with the 'NTLDR is missing' error. I am currently figuring out how best to recover from this loss. I have 5 sets of boot, rescue, and repair floppies: Windows 2000, RH Linux 7.2, Partition Magic v.7.0 for Windows/DRDOS, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. I just booted up the recovery console from my Windows 2000 floppies, but I may also have to reinstall lilo by rebooting with the RedHat 7.2 floppies. I know from Web FAQs that rescue from an mbr error/erasure under windows NT is impossible without
1. NT boot floppies
2. a created backup of the lost Winnt mbr file, on the same floppy disk(s).

The RH Linux/lilo FAQs say that rescue of the WINNT dual-boot configuration is impossible without these 2 things. Next time spend some time making some boot floppies.
-Sorry.

: Has anyone figured this one out?

: : : Have a question about booting linux / NT when the mbr has been erased...

: : : After trying to upgrade my win2k/linux system at late hours of the night, I
: : : was careless enough to overwrite the nt loader that had previously run
: : : snuggly behind lilo. This is not the first time this has happened (and in the end I
: : : knew recovery of the NT partition seemed unlikely), I am just unsure if it
: : : is possible to boot back into the NTFS partition.

: : : Here's an idea of the partitions on my system:
: : : hda3 - ntfs [win2k]
: : : hda4 - vfat [win98]
: : : hdb1..5 - ext2 [debian 2.2]

: : : i seperated nt/linux on two physical disks, but installed lilo over the mbr
: : : as previously this had worked fine. i've been able to mount the ntfs file
: : : system, but to save me the trouble of reinstalling nt from scratch, does anyone
: : : know how to boot to the nt partition if the nt loader has been overwritten?

: : : previously I was able to boot hda3 with lilo, which would bring up the
: : : loader where I could chose between the windows os's i had installed. but now this
: : : yields no success ('NTLDR missing'). Note that the recovery consol is
: : : installed, I just don't have an NT recovery boot disk :(

: : : Another issue: i do have a copy of bootmagic but never bothered to install
: : : it - if I had installed lilo on the linux primary partition would i be able to
: : : boot between win2k and linux using bootmagic? i have not had time to
: : : investigate...

: : : Any advice would greatly valued, otherwise sleep doesn't seem likely
: : : tonight...
: : also I was running on win xp.
