All the FAQs say MkLinux will not run on these.
Why not?
I have a Centris 650 + DayStar PowerPro 601 card.
The PowerPro cdev apparently writes to PRAM, because
after setting it to boot as ppc I can throw the cdev
away and it will still give the DayStar splash screen.
J-P Curcio's Gestalt.Appl reports to all intents and
purposes I have a 6100/80, and no other software barfs.
But if I click [Boot MkLinux] at the start screen I get
"No Open Firmware and machine is not recognised
"by this bootloader (err=120)" and a frozen Mac.
I followed the discussion about Sonnet 604 cards, got the
"Wish I were..." extension+cdev, changed its type to
scri to load before MkLinux Booter. Now I get one step
further. The screen changes from MacOS to Linux black
with a white cursor, frozen.
DayStar software reports ROM version $77D chksum $995E9DA8
Their manual says the card "includes the same ROM chips
as the Apple machines..."
Obviously MkLinux is looking behind the green curtain,
but what does it see there?
